Award Ceremony
2009 started solemnly with the band performing at the funeral of Christian Brothers Graduate Matthew Croce at St. Peters, and the funeral of Br. Adrian Powers, former principal of CBHS, at Immaculate Conception. After a great pep band season the band was on to greater venues. The Historic Band performed at River Arts Fest, The Veterans Day Parade, The Massing of the Colors, and performed at the 50th Liberty Bowl Parade down Beale Street. The fall Concert honored the life of Br. Joseph Raphael (Jack Humphry), the seventh band director of the Christian Brothers Band who passed away the previous year and Band President Buddy Langley Conducted "Fantasy on a Theme by Sousa."
After a superior showing at the All West Clinic the band ventured to New York City for the second time for its Band Tour bringing the concert "Songs of the Delta." The concert tour included performances at Bishop Laughlin Memorial High School, The Lincoln Center in Alice Tully Hall and the world famous Carnegie Hall. Students toured all the sights of New York including the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Time Square, and the Financial District. The boys enjoyed a cruise around Manhattan, a night of dancing at the Cotton Club, and the Broadway Show "West Side Story" with Bill Murray in attendance. Easter Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's Cathedral.
Upon their return to Memphis, the band performed their annual Spring Concert and wrapped up the year at Graduation.
