The 140th year of the Christian Brothers Band began with the band performing at many CBHS football games and the first semester concluded with the annual fall concert. The band was honored this fall with a Tennessee State Historical Marker on the Campus recognizing the Christian Brothers Band as "The Oldest High School Band in America." The band was the recipient of the "Brother Michael Collins, F.S.C. Award" for "Fostering excellence and diversity in a Catholic, Lasallian school program...creating a sense of community among students of every religion, every race, every socio-economic group."
After a good show at All West and the UT Martin Honor Band in the spring, the band performed at the WTSBOA Concert Festival and received Superior ratings. The band celebrated 140 years with an anniversary concert at the Orpheum Theatre. The concert included many performing groups, including the Christian Brothers Choirs, the Alumni Band, and the choir from De La Salle Elementary. The band performed "A Stroll Down Beale Street" with pieces reflecting upon the history of the great blues thoroughfare, including the Beale Street Blues by W. C. Handy. After the concert many alumni visited with Mr. Krepper (Band director of cbhs 1980-2000) at Alfred’s as he played with the Memphis Jazz Orchestra.
The band also debuted the new "Br. Vincent Mass,” the official mass of CBHS adapted and arranged by Patrick Bolton and Michael Williams, at St. Peter's Church with the CBHS Choir. The performance was streamed online for all those who remembered Br. Vincent and his music. Charles Cahill '48 was inducted into the band hall of fame at the band banquet, and the band rounded out the year by performing at the 2013 graduation.
The Historic Band had a very active year beginning with the Dedication of the State of Tennessee Historical Marker honoring the band as "the Oldest High School Band in America." The Band then performed for the 75th anniversary of St. John's Catholic Church, The National Honor Society Induction Ceremony, the Wings Cancer Ride Send Off, the Greenline Celebration Weekend, Grandparents Day, the Massing of the Colors and they won 3rd place in the Memphis Veterans Day Parade.
