This year was an adventurous one for the oldest high school band in America. The Pep Band started the year out with performances at the football games that ended with the band traveling with the football game to MTSU for the final state football game. It was cold one, but the band was hot and serenaded the many fans that traveled to see the football team.
The Historic Band was featured this fall at the Pink Palace Craft's fair and performed at the annual National Honor Society Induction, Veterans Day Parade on Second Street in Downtown Memphis and Massing of the Colors hosted at the Church of the Holy Communion.
The Fall Concert featured guest soloist Jahleel Eli on Latin Percussion for the piece Latin-American Fantasy which included a Marimba solo. Chase Mitchusson, the band's Vice-President was featured on the Mozart Clarinet Concerto and the band President, Chris McCollum played tuba on the work Forty Fathoms.
In the Spring the band had students make the WTSBOA All West Band, the Mid-South Honor Band at Ole Miss, and the University of Memphis Honor Band. They also hosted the first annual Mardi Gras Dance and Auction that raised money for the band to go to Hawaii. Walnut Groove and Mr. McKee's person band, the Rhythm Hounds, entertained. 27 members of the band also received superior ratings at Solo and Ensemble Festival.
In early March the band traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii for a concert tour. The band performed on the USS Missouri Battleship, and competed in the 206 Heritage Festival held at the Pearl City Cultural Center. At the festival the band performed 5900 Walnut Grove and The Prelude to Act V of King Manfred and placed first in the competition. On the trip band members toured the USS Arizona site, visited the beach many times, visited the Polynesian cultural center and attended a luau.
The year concluded with the annual Spring Concert entitled "The Sounds of War" in which the band performed music from Star Wars, In Memoriam of Dresden - 1945, music from The Civil War, The Iliad, Mars the Bringer of War, and December 7, 1941.
